Kamala Harris begins ‘107 Days’ book promo with Rachel Maddow interview

Kamala Harris is set to appear on “The Rachel Maddow Show” as she returns to the public eye, nearly a year after losing a short-lived bid for the White House.

Maddow announced that the former vice president will sit down Monday, Sept. 22 for the first news interview since her loss, which falls one day before the release of her forthcoming book “107 Days.”

“She will be here live on set with me for the show,” Maddow told her audience Sept. 15. “I have roughly 400,000 things I want to ask her about, but I will get my chance. We’re going to have that sitdown one-on-one.”

Maddow – who said that she was “excited” for the Monday night episode – also reflected on President Donald Trump while explaining the run-up to their chat.

“In the 10 months or so that have transpired since the 2024 election, it feels like we’ve had about 10 years worth of news of course,” Maddow said. “But in thinking about talking to Kamala Harris next week, I realized that there’s a lot on the record from her campaign and from her time in public life that is kind of helpful right now.”

“Helpful to the point that we shouldn’t kid ourselves that anything that Trump has done is surprising. We shouldn’t kid ourselves that the way he has behaved in the second term is a surprise,” Maddow continued.

The title of “107 Days” is a nod to the length of the Harris bid for the White House from former President Joe Biden’s exit from the race until Trump won the election last November. In an early excerpt of the book released last week, Harris said it was “recklessness” that drove so many people around Biden to defer to the aging president and his wife.

“‘It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.’ We all said that, like a mantra, as if we’d all been hypnotized,” Harris wrote, basically calling it a mistake to remain silent on Biden’s health.

Although Maddow will be Harris’s first news interview since the election, the former VP previously appeared on “The Late Night with Stephen Colbert” on July 31. Harris’ political future is uncertain. She also announced in July that she didn’t plan to seek the California governorship in 2026.

Harris, who lives in Los Angeles with former second gentleman Douglas Emhoff, did not rule out running for president in 2028, only telling her followers at the time that “for now, my leadership – and public service – will not be in elected office.”
