`Erdoğan receives Shell CEO after major BOTAŞ deal

The closed-door meeting at the presidential palace in the capital Ankara came after Turkish state energy company Botaş and Shell signed a 10-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement starting from 2027 that will see Shell provide Türkiye with the gas.

Under the terms of the agreement, Shell will deliver approximately 4 billion cubic meters of LNG to Türkiye annually, amounting to a total of 40 billion cubic meters over the duration of the contract.

Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar noted on X that the agreement also includes options for loading from the supply port and unloading at European terminals, offering additional regional and global trade opportunities.

The deal is the latest step in Ankara’s efforts to become a regional energy hub.

BOTAŞ recently signed a 10-year LNG agreement with ExxonMobil to purchase up to 2.5 million tons of LNG annually from the U.S. company.
