China announces anti-dumping probe into Japanese chip-related chemical
China has announced it will launch an anti-dumping probe into imports of a chemical from Japan used mainly for semiconductor production.
The Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday that the investigative authority will study to what extent the price of a chemical called dichlorosilane has been lowered and whether the domestic industry has suffered any damage.
The ministry said the investigation will continue for one year in principle. There is a possibility that tariffs could be increased as a result of the probe.
China has reacted sharply to the remark made by Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae in November that a possible Taiwan emergency involving the use of force could be considered a situation that threatens Japan’s survival.
Beijing announced on Tuesday that it will introduce tighter export controls on Japan for what it calls dual-use items that can be used for both military and civilian purposes.
These moves could be part of China’s economic pressure on Japan in relation to the tension.
