Brisbane Lions through to AFL grand final with 16-point win over Carlton in preliminary final at the Gabba
The Brisbane Lions are into the AFL grand final for the first time in 19 years after a 16-point win over Carlton in their preliminary final at the Gabba.
The Lions dominated the second and third terms, then withstood a late charge from the Blues to win by 11.13 (79) to 9.9 (63).
The Lions’ win sets up a repeat of the 2002 and 2003 grand finals, where Brisbane beat Collingwood on both occasions as part of their three premierships in a row.
Brisbane’s last grand final was in 2004, where they were defeated by Port Adelaide.
