Police investigating online threat to third Mosque

NSW police are investigating threats made online to another Sydney Mosque, with a TikTok account allegedly making another reference to the 2019 Christchurch shooting.
Lakemba Mosque in Sydney’s west reported received an alleged threat on Wednesday.
A group representing Padstow Mosque said they had received a similar comment under a video yesterday, allegedly from the same account.

The alleged threats referenced the Christchurch shooting at a mosque in New Zealand in 2019, in which 51 people were killed.
“Investigations are underway after online threats were made to two mosques in southwest Sydney,” NSW police said in a statement.
Police believe the two incidents may be linked.

Two weeks ago, a 16-year-old boy was charged over a similar alleged online threat towards the Australian Islamic House Masjid Mosque in Edmondson Park.
At the time, NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said police took alleged threats “very seriously”, with WA police arresting the teenager just eight hours after the alleged comments were reported.
A group representing several Muslim Associations condemned the threats.
”The Muslim community is once again left feeling unsafe, with many fearing for their safety while gathering in places of worship during its holiest month and peak days,” they said.
“This wave of Islamophobia not only threatens individuals but also undermines the fabric of social harmony in Australia.”
